Alex Mathew was born in Trivandrum, Kerala. Studied art in Institutions like College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum(1975-81), Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.University of Baroda (1982-84), Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste(1986-87).

Artist in residence, Department of Visual Arts, Kumaon University, Almora supported by Central Lalit Kala Akademi, 27 Oct – Nov 8th, 2009.

Also worked on a large concrete mural along with Asokan Poduval at IPCL, Baroda(1985-6), Executed commission Works for Jyothi Ltd, Baroda(1993,1995), Monumental Sculpture at Shakatan Thampuran Palace, Trissur(2003-4). Curated a show called ‘Unfaithfully yours’ for Gallery SKE, Bangaluru(2009).

Taught at Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.University of Baroda(1993-99), RLV College, MG University, Kerala(2000-02), Presently working as an Associate Professor in S.N.Schol of PA, FA & Commu;Central University of Hyderabad.
